To infinity, and slightly beyond

I didn’t get any kills last weekend. But I made up for that on Monday and Tuesday. Not by much, but still.

When I came back from work Monday I was told to immediately grab myself a cruiser and join the TeamSpeak. I had absolutely no idea what was going on, seeing that I don’t actually read my evemails when I’m at work, despite being able to do so.
Once I was told that we were going to go on a cruiser roam I jump cloned to an empty clone and bought myself a Rupture. 15 jumps later I was in our starting system and waiting for the roam to begin.
Bearing in mind that I have absolutely no idea what I was doing, I just followed orders, warping and alligning when I was told to do so.
We went through Minmatar FW space, but every time we jumped into a system, the people in local warned other people and not long after that we’d be all alone. It’s a shame, we were just looking for fights but the fights ran away from us.
Reps are up!

We were “lucky” in one system, our only frigate along with the roam was slacking a bit and warped later than the rest of us from the stargate to an outpost. Funny enough, he saw a Stabber Fleet Issue uncloak and line up to his warp spot. Knowing what was incoming we just lay in wait, ready to point the Stabber. I had top damage but didn’t get the kill, that was for one of the other’s drones. No biggy, I now had a positive number on my killboard. Yay.
After flying around a bit longer we came across a system with a Drake Navy Issue on D-scan, we found him in an outpost but he warped away. To a belt. Our FC, in his “panic” of catching that Drake, he warped us there too, at 0, thinking that the Drake was probably smarter than that we thought we wouldn’t be getting that Drake.
How wrong we were. After popping him we caught his pod and tried to ransom him. We didn’t ask much, it was a 4 month old character, and we figured that he’d be able to pay 25m. He told us that he didn’t have the money, and right when we decided we’d just let him go. Because in the end we are not bad guys. He self-destructed. I have no idea why he did that, but that was funny. Especially considering that he had a 100m pod.
Both the Drake’s fit and his pod made me wonder what he was doing there. But I just figure that he was one of those guys that buys PLEX, sells it for ISK and then flies something he shouldn’t be flying in.
It was either stupidity or not caring about it. Either way, my killboard is now positive. Yay me.
Yesterday we decided to do the same as before, but this time in Battlecruisers and Gallente FW space. Unfortunately we didn’t actually find much, we did get the drop on an Atron, the poor guy must have shat his pants because he didn’t do anything, didn’t even move. (yes I know, he was AFK, but looking at him like a deer on the road, looking at headlights coming towards it is much better).
The race is on!

I enjoyed myself during the roams, and not because I actually like PvP. No it was all because of the teamspeak, talking to the others and making jokes. I think that’s the only thing that kept me interested in the roam. Otherwise I would have stopped much faster.
I learned that if I ever were to go out and PvP, that I really need to learn how to use D-scan, and fast.

As if you know what you’re doing

I have spent most of my evening jumping around different systems on my ex-RvB alt, trying to get all of its assets in the same spot. Let’s just say that it’s taken me quite some time and I’m even close to being finished.
I don’t like a mess in my assets window, on most of my accounts they are spread in about 4 or 5 systems. On that one alt, the assets are spread in 16 systems. Hence the clean up.

I’ve been able to just trash some things, Noob ships that were docked somewhere because I once went into the station without a pod.. Ores that were so low in number that using my time to bother with them would actually make me lose ISK.

Most of the spread right now is between Jita and one of its previous bases of operations near Amarr, seeing that this character used to run L4’s, in a time that I can no longer remember.

While “playing” I was checking EvEMon a bit and I couldn’t help but notice that I don’t have any skill plans, for any of my characters. I create one, and then I just ignore it and just wing it, deciding on the fly what to update the queue with.

I really should stop doing this, not only is it inefficient, it’s also not really helping me into knowing what my characters can and can’t do.

As the readers of my blog know, I flew a Dominix a while back. Which is a great example of me not knowing what I can do. Because when I was first asked if I could, I said no, until I was linked the fit and I noticed that I can actually use sentries, and that I can get into a Dominix. Now, that second part is just plain stupidity on my end because I fly a Machariel and have Gallente Battleship on V so I should have actually known better, but that’s beside the point.

The point is that I have absolutely no idea what to do with my two combat characters and my industrial character. I don’t know what to train and I just pick skills at random that look good.
Or I start working on the mastery and then just stop doing it altogether because I noticed another one that I liked better.

I didn’t actually resolve to do anything special this year. But if I’m going to, maybe I should just start with making a skill queue and decide on a path to take.

Every day, you learn something new.

As it turns out, I’m not that good at scanning. Whether it is partly due to my lack of skills or because I just suck at it in general. I’m just bad at it.

I found that out while trying to check if I could scan things in a high sec area. It took me about 20 minutes to resolve the one gas site that I found there. Twenty whole minutes.
Scanning ship, at your service

Makes me wonder how bad I’ll be at this if I tried it in w-space. And I don’t feel like training it right now because I have other plans in my queue. I’m currently training to finally be able to fly a Loki. I already have all the subsystems in place, the only thing missing is Minmatar Cruiser V.. Which will take me 17 more days, I guess that just goes to show that I should plan things better than I do right now.

But! The good news is that I finally finished Gallente Battleship V so my Machariel now has the full bonuses for both the Battleship skills. And most people know, I really, really love my Machariel.

Which makes it even better for me that people seem to want to get rid of theirs, the prices of Pirate faction battleships has been dropping ever since Rubicon hit.
The whispers I heard say that this is because of the warp speed changes, making them rather slow. But I still love my Mach, it’s my first baby and I will treasure her/him/it forever.

And in other news, turns out that I forgot to enable auto subscription on my main account so I lost 14 hours of training..Darn

What’s in a name

I’ve had a few people ask me why I call myself a Noob, when I obviously am not. Or at least not quite. They use the little ISK I have as an example for me not being one. But what exactly defines being a noob? And am I allowed to call myself one?

Those that asked me, are thinking about newb/newbro, as in someone who’s new to the game and doesn’t quite understand it yet. A noob on the other hand, is, according to UrbanDictionary; “Someone who knows little and has no will to learn anymore”

But I don’t like that definition either, because I do want to learn more. I just call myself a noob because I, like many others, know very little of the game, despite having played it for a while now. And despite having experience in things like this. But my noobyness (if that’s even a word) makes for some good writing.. That and I had no idea what else to call my blog so there you have it.

Speaking of learning, I learnt something new today.. That my mission runner is not that well liked by the Gallente Federation. How did I find out you ask? Well quite simply by going to Arnon and having their Navy tell me that they will blow my ship up if I don’t leave their controlled space.

So now I’m training Diplomacy, because I wanted to go do the SOE arc again. That’s something I do every few months, despite it not being of any use to me, I kind of like doing it, it makes me go out of my way to other systems, systems I don’t usually go to.
That and I get a bit of extra standing with the Sisters, which is a nice thing to have with the upcoming expansion.

Cue obligated thoughts on ‘Rubicon’

I don’t really have a big opinion about it, I don’t know enough about anything in the game to form one that makes any sense. I like the idea of player owned custom offices in High Sec. I’m one of those that does PI in High Sec, and to me the glass is always half full. So I’m thinking of lower tax rates. I might even be able to place a few of my own in my home system *fingers crossed*

I have no idea what the new structures will mean for me, the one thing I’m afraid of is that the Noctis might be on his way out.

Why? Well, the Noctis is, by far, my favorite ship. It has been ever since I first bought one and started tractoring, if I could and it paid quite a bit, I would be salvaging all day. Right now I use it to follow my mission runner, I pop in, tractor everything to me, salvage and loot.
Come to me my precious

I think I have more fun in that ship than I should be having in it.

Skills are trained, lets see if the Gallente Federation is still eager to blow me up

Is it worth it?

While updating my invention and manufacturing runs in my POS I was talking to a friend of mine who was helping me out with the understanding of invention when I first started doing it. He asked me if my POS is starting to turn out a profit yet and I had couldn’t help but wonder “Is it?”.

The one problem I seem to have while playing EVE is that I tend to forget to write down my expenses vs my profit. I have made spreadsheets in the past, and made a few this week, but those were easy ones, to state how much my inventory is etc etc. Nothing big yet to show the revenue of the POS.

So that’s my next goal, I need to start to figure out if the work and ISK I put in the POS is giving me a profit or a loss.

Running one is not cheap, I have a large Caldari tower so that means about 500m in fuel alone each month. Next to that I buy all my minerals in Jita, or near where I live, so I need to put that in the equation too.

Coupled with how much ISK I spend on the invention and the actual BPC’s that come out. The only thing I know now, is that I have about a 40% chance of getting a T2 BPC out of the inventions, and that’s it.

I promised myself to start writing all of this down, now I just have to hold myself to that promise, that’s not going to be easy, I tend to get distracted easily while playing EVE. Channels, shiny ships, you name it, it distracts me. Next time, before I buy something or place a buy order, I’m going to write it down.
Same goes for selling, I guess I’ll know in a week or two if my POS is worth the upkeep.

Oh and in other news, I lost my Epithal last night. I was going from Jita back to base in it and remembered I had some PI mats in a low sec system. Thinking that nobody would be around at that time I went through the gate and started the warp. The moment I did a Prophecy popped up and insta-locked me and I got scrambled. Unable to escape my Epithal got blown up. That was a 50million ISK loss. Oh well, things like that can happen every time you undock.

Coming to a system near you!
