The joys of real life

It has quite literally been a while since I last posted anything. I’m blaming this on real life. A while ago me and my girlfriend decided that we wanted to buy a place together instead of keep on renting.
As it turns out, that stuff takes a LOT of your time. Not only did we see hundreds of houses. We couldn’t find anything to our liking.

So a few months ago the decision was made we’ll just build one. So our hunt for a house, became a hunt for the perfect piece of land to build on.

Which, again isn’t too easy but luckily we had some friends on the lookout too.

In march I signed off on an agreement, a so called “promise of purchase” they call it here. And normally it should have been made official a few weeks ago but unfortunately the government decided to screw us over a bit and decide that the 10 trees are now “vulnerable” (freaking pines) and we weren’t allowed to cut them down.

So I had to contact lawyers, government officials etc etc. Luckily the government decided that they were total idiots with the decision and called it back because it was affecting thousands of land owners making their pieces of land worthless when , like me, they literally had just bought it to start building a house on.

So that’s part of the reason why I haven’t been on much.

The other part is.. Well it’s EvE. From time to time you need a break.

I just got myself a bunch of skill extractors, one of my dread alts will be scrapped. Seeing that I do not want to bear with him ever again and I have no use of an alt that can only fly a dread.

Meaning that I have about 30m in skillpoints to extract. Which will up my ISK wallet a bit again. That’ll be fun for when I have a few carriers I’ll be dropping in null soon.

EvE and me

In EvE, like in any other MMO there will be a time when you just need a small hiatus. Most people playing EvE know this feeling well or will know this feeling because it happens to all of them. You might not stop playing altogether but you’ll just let your “game time” go to other games.

Which is basically what happened to me a few weeks ago. I wasn’t feeling it anymore and spent a few weeks playing Elder Scrolls Online. Which was a fun way to spend my time.

Last week however I felt like playing again. Why? Well, I was in London. Not by a twist of fate or anything, but because the corp was going for another real life meetup over there. One of the guys was going to go there from 15th till 20th of February and it was decided that those able to join should do so too.

And thus I met up with another bunch of my corp members.

Which was fun. It’s nice to be able to put a face to the guys I’ve been talking to since August. Well, most at least. One of them was there for the Prague meetup too.

We had fun, did the touristy stuff, talked about EvE, plans for the corporation etc etc. I did bring my girlfriend along because she’s still jealous she wasn’t allowed to join me when I went to Prague so this was to make sure I wouldn’t hear her complain again for month on end that I don’t take her along.

One of the reasons why the EvE bug bit me again was due to talking about it. That never happens when I go out with real life friends. They know that I play but are not interested at all in the game itself. So I can’t really discuss anything, or tell them anything about it because they just don’t care or don’t understand it anyhow.

I’m still a big noob but I like talking about the game. Even though I don’t know too much about it 😉

Coincidentally, the EvE London meet was during the weekend too. This wasn’t something we planned in advance but we went over to the pub, sat in a corner, drank, laughed and met a few people. Most guys in the pub were Null-sec residents. So we didn’t really have much in common with the risk averse guys there. But there was one other wormhole corp and we kind off banded together.

We did meet a few guys from PL. And some guy came to say hi to us, we were supposed to know him by name but it literally didn’t ring a bell with any of us. I think it was JakeMeister or something. At least that’s what his shirt said. I’m guessing that due to null sec people knowing him he figured that others would too. He was wrong but still.

London was fun. I’m looking forward to more of these meets, although maybe in less expensive places…

Meeting corporation IRL

My past couple of days were not spent on EvE for a change. Or not ingame at least. I was in Prague with members of my corporation. Which was super fun. And the week before that I went to Gamescom, which is something I’ve been doing in the past few years just because it’s a fun experience.

I don’t go to the con to play games though, because I don’t like standing in line for over three hours just to play a game in advance of its release date for about 30 minutes. It’s all about the atmosphere in the arena.

As for Prague, I never really did a real life meetup with people that I play games with, this was the first time that I decided “fuck it might as well” and went.
Prague is about a ten hour drive from my place so instead of taking a plane which would have taken one and a half, I decided that I’d do it by car. Make a little road trip out of it.

On the road I picked up two other guys from the corporation. The fun thing about doing that was not having a clue what those guys looked like. I showed them my car, told ‘em that’s what they need to look for at the designated pickup places and that’s it. That was step one of the adventure, step two was getting through Germany and the Czech Republic, into Prague.

I left on Thursday morning around 6.15 and we arrived in Prague at the hotel at around 17.45, this included a few needed stops on the way, and a detour in the city because instead of listening to my navigation system, I listened to one of the guys. As per usual on coms, that wasn’t one of the best ideas 😉

Prague riverside view

We spent a few days there, getting to know each other, putting a face behind the name and talking about EvE. It’s a nice change of pace from going out with my real life friends, since they know nothing about EvE and aren’t interested in it. I loved talking to others about it, making ingame plans, coming up with stuff to do etc etc.

All in all, a very good time. Although I did miss logging in. Since the place we stayed at did not have Wifi and my roaming charges are through the roof.

I came back yesterday, dead tired but with some great new memories. All in all, that was a good way to spend a few days off work.

The first thing I did logging in last night was turn on my PI again. Since my planets have been doing nothing since Thursday. After that, I put Jump Drive calibration V in my skill queue, because supposedly I should have that if I want to play around with a Blops. I still need to buy a Panther but I’m going to be doing that as soon as I come in Amarr or Jita.

I’m also thinking about maybe resubbing a third account. I still need to decide on it but I might want to do that again. I just need to decide on what I want to be doing. Since after training E’dyn into blops some more, I will probably start training for Dreads.

Trading wise I haven’t done much in the past few weeks. I’m buying and selling plexes every few days, same with skill injectors. It’s a small profit because I keep forgetting about the higher taxes on normal stations. But it’s something.

Feeling guilty

I would be lying if I said that I have spent the past few weeks playing lots of EvE and making new online acquaintances in the game, because I haven’t.

What with the new way of training your skills I haven’t even had to log in to update my queue on any of my accounts, seeing that all of my characters currently have around 200 days worth of training going for them.

But all of this is due to the fact that I’ve been either super busy, or trying out a few new games. One of which being the new Assassin’s Creed. I have to admit that I wasn’t even planning on buying it at first but a friend showed it to me when I was at his place and it looked way more fun than Black Flag or that horrendous thing Ubisoft dared to call AC 3. So I spent the past week playing that, and the weeks before that preparing for a few exams I had to do that were work related. Seeing that I work as a consultant and customers always like it when the people they hire have a piece of paper stating that they know what they’re doing. It’s silly but that’s how the world works.

I wish I could have said that I spent the past weeks playing EvE though, that I had found myself a corporation I was truly happy with, one that I went on flights with, tried out new things with. But alas, I haven’t even tried searching for one yet.

I’m kind of hoping that I’ll just get one thrown at me I guess. Bad way of working but still. I promise that I’m going to try and change that, we’ll see what happens.

The EvE online youtube-channel did release a new trailer called “This is EVE”

If you haven’t watched it, check it out right now, just click on the play button there. It takes parts of real players talking on their comms, pasting it in a pretty nice video. I really enjoyed watching it, and I bet you will too.

Now it’s time to go log in again, I feel bad for leaving the factories cold for so long.
