FC, should we jump too?

Yesterday was the second time I played FC. Although maybe we shouldn’t count the first one, since it wasn’t that long one but still.

I’m still new at all this. Doing it to make sure that I, and the others, have something to do. So called content creation.

It basically started with us going through our null sec static in cruisers. I told them that we might die, so what do my fleet members do? Undock in cruisers like a Gila and Orthrus’, because you know, if you’re going out, might as well do it in style.

Seeing as I am not quite that experienced, and I never cared about null sec politics or null sec in general, I had no idea that an area like Syndicate is dead.
So dead in fact that most of the systems we jumped in were empty.
Mistake number one. But, so be it, we had a wandering hole that led to another null.
Figured we’d go poke around in there.

It was a frigate sized hole so we did have to reship, I called for interceptors or other frigate sized ships, so we went there with a few interceptors, a sabre and a magus.

This time we were in Fountain. Turns out Fountain is filled with people that do not want to fight. They just dock up as soon as a neutral is close, which is a shame.

While I was checking Dotlan on what system to jump to, I of course jumped every once in a while without telling my fleet to do so. Mistake number two.
Which basically meant that every few jumps I had the question “FC, should we jump in too?” followed with a few laughs, since all in all it’s funny to poke on the FC right?

They even made a deal that if we didn’t find anything they could kill me. I did not agree to this but I wasn’t asked for my opinion. You see what I had to work with here.

Luckily for me and my, oh so expensive interceptor, we eventually found something. The Magus pilot had a Drake on d-scan, and found him ratting in an asteroid belt (I know right). Once he called point the fleet warped in and made sure they had him pointed too. Me, being the eager fc was already two systems further so I scrambled back, while being happy that something was caught.

As you can imagine, with a few interceptors and a sabre, it can still take a while to break a Drake’s tank. Which gave him enough time to call for help in local. Not that any was forthcoming. “Guys, help, I’m in asteroid belt x, there’s 5 of them”

Even with that intel not much happened. A jackdaw did land on us, but unfortunately for him we were eager for kills so he was pointed and killed quite fast.

Not long after that we killed the Drake and his pod. The loot going to our Magus pilot. Hooray! Kills.

Onwards to the next few systems. So we went on, only to find a gate camp, the Drake and Jackdaw’s friends. Good thing we were in inties. Or at least, most of us. We did lose our Sabre, and I thought that was it.

FC was bad. I figured our Magus pilot was following us too, but turns out he wasn’t there yet. So about 10 minutes after we had gotten past the camp, he got killed. In hindsight, I should have made sure that everyone was there, I should not have taken the gate, or at least told the Sabre and Magus pilot to turn around. Seeing that we couldn’t take a 20 man T3 destroyer camp with just our little fleet.

But so be it, live and learn. I’ll do better next time, and next time I’ll know that I should reroll the static if we come out in Syndicate or Fountain.

I had my fun, and I’m 85% sure that the rest of the guys had fun too. So operation success

Happy New Year and all that!

First of all, I’d like to wish you all a happy new year and that hopefully it will be a good one.

Normally people do resolutions, I decided to skip those this year, I don’t hold myself to it anyhow. I might go back and see if I can find the ones I made last year though, see if I actually did anything that was on that list.

I’ve spent the last few days eating way too much food. Christmas party, Christmas leftovers, some more Christmas stuff at family, New Year’s dinner, after the fireworks some more food etc. etc.

Safe to say that I ate way too much, in too short a span.

But! This is a blog about gaming, and mostly about EvE since I’ve been playing more and more of it the past few weeks.

I joined a Null sec corporation two weeks ago and have been slowly learning my way around null, going on roam, getting to know them and trying to figure out things to do when not on a roam.

The one thing I hate about null is the fact that every time I think about buying something, I can’t. Because there’s no market here, at all. Most people have the stuff they need in their hangars so the newcomers are a bit fucked from time to time. Which means that I need to use the corporation’s hauling service to get stuff from Jita to the home base. But unfortunately that still means I need to wait until someone does the hauling.

This made me think about maybe making a market there myself. It’s not impossible but without no knowledge of what other people might need, it could be a bit hard. I might just grab a whole bunch of the doctrines and put them on contract with a slight profit. Should get me some ISK at the very least. But I can’t do that with my combat alt, meaning I should get one of my traders over here etc. etc. We’ll see.

For some reason nobody here does PI. It confused me, since PI is such a great way to make passive income, or even supply your own things when you make T2’s. So I’m looking into it too. There’s still Interbus POCO’s around, they’re easy to destroy and claim.

Other than that, roams! And plenty of them. I’m finally having things to do, and as you can see, plenty of things I still need to work out. The New Year is off to a good start.

Bomber’s bar, revisited

Yesterday was a good day. After chatting a bit with people on IRC (yes I still use IRC) I felt like joining a Bomber’s Bar op again. And I’m glad that I did.

The last time I joined a BB roam was in March, when I joined in the downing of a 3b Nidhoggur on my alt. That was also one of the last time I was still active in EvE, with that I mean logging in a few times a day instead of once a week, so a long time ago.

I’ve said it in previous blogs, and I’ll say it again, I LOVE NPSI ops. I’m afraid of going out to PvP solo but the fun thing about Bomber’s Bar is that I don’t need to hunt the whole time, they do it for us.

We were waiting in Thera for a target, there weren’t many people around last night so we decided to go for smaller ones instead of “whale” hunting. After jumping through the wormhole and waiting for a few more minute on the redeemer, cloaked of course. We were told in coms that a Charon was found, slowly tugging along to a gate. So, as soon as he jumped the gate, our hunter scrammed him. It took less than 5 minutes to go from no kills, to a 2.8b Charon.

After that we stuck around the gate for a bit, an Impel came through, after that a procurer. Turns out these guys don’t really listen to their own coms since yesterday evening I got on 4 kills from the same alliance, and a killing blow on a sabre. Spicing up my zKillboard with 3.5b ISK in kills.

Glad I decided that last night was a good night to be a bit more active again.

Other than that, I’ve been approached by someone who read the blog (yay readers!) to check out W-space again. To form a corporation and set up in a C3. My previous adventures in W-space didn’t work out so well, because of me not being active in a wh corp. And the other one because we were naïve enough to think we could duo a C4.

So I’m currently considering it, but I’m only going to try out another W-space adventure if we can find more people to join us. I know for a fact that two people in a hole can get lonely and usually means someone is doing more work that the other. And I know for a fact that I tend to get bored scanning solo after a while and the other guy might be working harder than me. I’d rather not get an EvE burn out again.

I should probably think about making a channel, so we can have a place to chat

Big Succes .. Sort off?

Today was one of those days where I logged in and actually did something different than just sitting in station, looking at my orders and spinning my ships.

I logged in, and did what I’ve been telling myself to do for a while. Go out on a roam.

Few corporation members were going to go on a BC roam so I decided to join them in a Hurricane I had lying about. Seeing that I am no PvPer at all I had to ask them for a fit for it, once that was done, and after adding a remote repairer I was ready.

It’s been ages since I had to use TeamSpeak so of course that had to update but once I was on it all went fine, my new headset works, everything’s great and I can follow the FC’s commands.
“No! I want to be on top!”

We jumped around a bit, failed to find anything and then came into a system where I saw a Venture on D-scan. As the veterans out there will point out, we did something extremely stupid next.

We split up, and went in search of the Venture, everyone going to a different belt. One of us the top one, other bottom, well you get the picture.

Some might have seen this coming from miles away, I certainly didn’t, and it seemed the rest of the fleet didn’t either. The venture was a trap. Not long after I had warped towards one of the belts I heard the venture was in the top belt and he got pointed. About 1 minute after I heard: “Oh, guys, I think this was a trap” and the fc telling us to quickly jump to top belt. There were about 11 of them waiting for us. Now, all in all we did pretty good, I repaired, I took a few shots, and then I jumped out back out at the command of the FC.

After which I kept thinking: “What do I do?! Am I supposed to go back in, what’s going on?”

Turns out the others got blown up and I was the only one still in my ship. Guess that was because I was late to the party and they didn’t point me as fast as they probably could have.

The roam was not what you would call a success except for the fact that I did go out in low sec in an “expensive” ship. That’s something isn’t it?

After that I went back to the so called market pvp and made a few 0.01 ISKers unhappy. But it’s making my own wallet grow bigger so that makes me happy.
